The holiday season is here and it’s that time of the year where we get to spend all our time with our family and loved ones. During this time, it’s usually a full house with a whole lot of relatives from all over the world who make their way into our homes. While there is so much happening at home with so many people around, it becomes difficult to entertain our kids and prevent them from getting bored. Here are some fun tips from the team of ABC Montessori to keep your kids entertained while you get to spend some fun time with them.
Cooking is part of our daily lives; won’t it be fun to involve our kids in it too? Especially when you’re preparing some delectable sweet treats for the holiday season. While you’re in the kitchen stirring up some delicious delights you can always ask your kids to help you out but, make sure you keep them away from sharp objects. Having a baking spree with your kids is not a bad idea too. Pick one day and dedicate it to preparing your kids favourite food items and make sure to keep them involved in the process.
Another fun thing that can be done is a reading marathon. Buy a book of short stories specially for the holiday season and make sure you guys finish it before the vacations end. Reading aloud to your kids will make them more attentive and will turn them into fast learners. Involve your kids in the story telling process. Make sure you have some pictures to help illustrate the story in order to build the imagination of your kids.
Kids are fidgety by nature so it’s important for us to keep them busy with the right things at all times. You can buy a whole lot of craft material like ice-cream sticks, origami paper, straws, sponge, paint etc. and give your child a new theme each day and ask him/her to paint or create something fun with the material you provide them. And don’t just leave it on them, make sure you get involved as well, help them and guide them while they’re in the process of making their masterpieces.
Children who spend time with their parents participating in activities together build a positive sense of self-worth. When children feel that they are valued by their parents, they feel more positive about themselves. Family activities don’t have to be expensive to make them meaningful, the important part is just being together. You could go for a bike ride or play a game together. Children learn by example. If you are setting a good example for them by spending quality time together, they are more likely to adopt those behaviours in other relationships in their lives. Simple things like playing games together will help them understand more about interacting with others as well as teach them things like sharing and kindness.
Most importantly, family time means you can just have fun and enjoy each other’s company! You’ve still got a little bit of time left before the children go back to school so make the most of it this holiday season and do something exciting together.
